Travel times are estimates from straight-line distance and the city's average transit speed. Real routes differ, so use them to compare bases rather than to plan a day. Time at each spot is an estimate, 2 hours by default. Places that take a whole day, such as a theme park, are set longer.

How to book Phuket for less

Choose a Phuket property on Agoda, copy the page link and paste it into Tripdify. The extension reads the price on every card, map and search channel and sorts by tax-inclusive total.

Under the results, check the same property on Trip.com, Hotellook and Expedia, and open flights, activities and eSIM for the same dates. Card-channel prices apply only when you pay with that card.

Read from this city's own twelve months. The table below adds the temperature and rainfall for each one.

Phuket's high season runs from November to April, with the sharpest peak from Christmas through early January and again over Lunar New Year, when beach resorts sell out months ahead. The southwest monsoon from May to October is the low season: the same resort can drop steeply and often throws in breakfast or a room upgrade. Rain tends to come in bursts rather than all day, but the west coast surf is rough and red flags close some beaches to swimming. Shoulder weeks in early November and late April offer most of the dry weather at a softer price.

Phuket month by month

Currency and card payments

The currency is the Thai baht. Resorts and larger restaurants accept cards, but beach vendors, local markets, tuk tuks and scooter rentals want cash, and ATMs charge a flat withdrawal fee, so take out larger sums less often. Exchange rates at the airport and in Patong are weaker than in Phuket Town, so change only what you need on arrival. Pay the hotel in baht rather than in your home currency. As elsewhere in Thailand, VAT and a service charge are often left out of the headline rate, so compare on the total.

Traveler tax refund

Tax free shopping and VAT refunds

In Thailand ask for a VAT refund form at shops showing the VAT Refund for Tourists sign, then claim it at the airport VAT refund counter on departure, where you may need to show the goods. There is a minimum purchase per shop per day and an overall minimum.

Where booking pays off

Phuket is resort country and Agoda's Thai inventory is deep here, so its card issuer channels are worth checking before you pay. On the same date the same resort can differ by several percent between channels, and the breakfast and cancellation terms sometimes differ too. Big resort chains reward direct bookings with breakfast or a resort credit on their member rate, and Trip.com is strong for the large Patong hotels popular with Chinese groups. Paste the Agoda link into Tripdify to sort the channels by total including tax, then open the same dates on Trip.com, Expedia and the chain's own site. Tripdify does not read prices from those sites, so confirm the figure there.

Where to stay

Patong has the nightlife, restaurants and shopping in one place, at the cost of a crowded beach and noise. Kata and Karon, about 20 minutes south, are the calmer family beaches. Bang Tao and Layan in the north hold the large luxury resorts and cost the most, but they are closest to the airport. Phuket Old Town has no beach but plenty of cafes, shophouses and Sino Portuguese streets, and hotels there are noticeably cheaper for the same class. Getting between beaches by tuk tuk or taxi is expensive, so pick one base rather than moving around.

Airport to the city

Phuket airport to Patong takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour by taxi or minivan, and the metered taxis from the official counter add a fixed airport fee. Shared minivans are cheaper but drop other passengers first and can double the time. The airport smart bus down the west coast to Patong, Karon and Kata is the cheapest option at around an hour and a half. Grab works from the airport but waits grow long in high season. Resort pickups are convenient and usually cost more than a taxi, so compare before you book one.
