Travel times are estimates from straight-line distance and the city's average transit speed. Real routes differ, so use them to compare bases rather than to plan a day. Time at each spot is an estimate, 2 hours by default. Places that take a whole day, such as a theme park, are set longer.

How to book Ho Chi Minh City for less

Choose a Ho Chi Minh City property on Agoda, copy the page link and paste it into Tripdify. The extension reads the price on every card, map and search channel and sorts by tax-inclusive total.

Under the results, check the same property on Trip.com, Hotellook and Expedia, and open flights, activities and eSIM for the same dates. Card-channel prices apply only when you pay with that card.

Read from this city's own twelve months. The table below adds the temperature and rainfall for each one.

Ho Chi Minh City has a dry season from December to April and a wet season from May to November, when rain comes as a short heavy burst most afternoons rather than all day. Rooms are most expensive over Christmas and New Year and around Tet, the lunar new year in late January or February, when many restaurants and shops close for several days. June through September is the cheap stretch, and the rain rarely spoils a whole day. The city hosts a lot of business travel, so midweek nights in District 1 can cost more than the weekend, the reverse of most resort destinations.

Currency and card payments

The currency is the Vietnamese dong, and the large numbers take a day to get used to. Hotels, malls and chain cafes take cards, but street food, markets and most taxis are cash only, so change a modest amount at the airport or a gold shop in town. Registering a card in the Grab app removes cash from most of your rides. Hotels commonly quote a room rate plus ten percent VAT and a five percent service charge, and booking sites differ in whether they show that in the headline price, so always compare the total. Decline any offer to be billed in your home currency.

Where booking pays off

Vietnam is Agoda's home turf, and in Ho Chi Minh City it usually has the deepest inventory and the lowest headline rate. Within Agoda the card issuer channels differ from each other by a few percent, so the cheapest one for a given hotel changes from week to week. Trip.com attaches its own coupons to Vietnamese hotels fairly often, and the big international chains sometimes offer a better breakfast inclusive rate directly. Paste the Agoda link into Tripdify to see every issuer channel sorted by total with tax, then use the links to open the same dates on Trip.com and Expedia. Tripdify does not read prices from those sites, so check them yourself.

Where to stay

First time visitors should stay in District 1. The blocks around Ben Thanh Market and Dong Khoi Street are dense with hotels and walkable to most sights, while Bui Vien Street is cheaper but loud until late. District 3 sits right beside District 1, quieter and a step down in price. Thao Dien in the old District 2 is the expat quarter with good cafes, but count on twenty minutes by car to the centre. The area around Landmark 81 in Binh Thanh has many new serviced apartments that suit families, and Phu My Hung in District 7 is calm but far from anything a visitor wants.

Airport to the city

Tan Son Nhat airport is only about eight kilometres from District 1, but traffic turns that into a thirty to forty five minute ride by taxi or Grab. Grab shows the fare before you get in and is the least stressful option; if you take a taxi, use only the Vinasun or Mai Linh ranks. Bus 109 runs to Ben Thanh and is the cheapest way in with luggage space. Many flights from Northeast Asia land after midnight, and a prebooked hotel car is worth the small premium at that hour. Allow a full hour back to the airport during the rush.
