Travel times are estimates from straight-line distance and the city's average transit speed. Real routes differ, so use them to compare bases rather than to plan a day. Time at each spot is an estimate, 2 hours by default. Places that take a whole day, such as a theme park, are set longer.

How to book Bali for less

Choose a Bali property on Agoda, copy the page link and paste it into Tripdify. The extension reads the price on every card, map and search channel and sorts by tax-inclusive total.

Under the results, check the same property on Trip.com, Hotellook and Expedia, and open flights, activities and eSIM for the same dates. Card-channel prices apply only when you pay with that card.

Read from this city's own twelve months. The table below adds the temperature and rainfall for each one.

Bali is dry from April to October and wet from November to March. Hotels are dearest in July and August, when European and Australian holidays overlap, and from Christmas into early January, with smaller peaks at Easter and each Australian school break. Nyepi, the Balinese Hindu new year in March, closes the airport and confines everyone indoors for a full day, so check the date before you book around it. November and late February into March are the cheap months, and the rain tends to arrive in an afternoon downpour rather than lasting all day. The dry season shoulder in May and June is the best compromise.

Currency and card payments

The currency is the Indonesian rupiah, and the large denominations confuse everyone at first. Hotels, resorts and bigger restaurants take cards, while warungs, small shops and temple entry are cash, so use an authorised money changer rather than a street kiosk. Resorts commonly add a combined government tax and service charge of twenty one percent, and sites differ in whether they show it up front, so compare only the total including tax. Bali also charges foreign visitors a one time tourist levy, payable online in advance or on arrival. Pay in rupiah or dollars and decline home currency conversion.

Where booking pays off

Bali is Agoda's strongest resort market, with the deepest villa inventory and clearly visible differences between its issuer channels. The tax and service charge of twenty one percent is added at different stages on different sites, which makes the displayed rate misleading unless you compare totals. Large resorts sometimes do better on their own site with breakfast and airport pickup bundled, and Expedia carries deep Bali inventory because of Australian demand. Paste the Agoda link into Tripdify to sort every issuer channel by total including tax, then open the same dates on Trip.com and Expedia through the links. Tripdify does not read prices from those sites.

Where to stay

Families on a first trip do well in Nusa Dua, where the big resorts sit on a calm beach within half an hour of the airport. Seminyak and Canggu draw a younger crowd with cafes and beach clubs, but the roads are clogged and prices keep rising. Kuta and Legian are the closest to the airport and the cheapest, and also the busiest. Ubud trades the sea for rice terraces and forest resorts and is about ninety minutes from the airport. Jimbaran has seafood on the sand and cliff top resorts, Uluwatu the surf and the views, and Sanur is the quiet choice for older travellers.

Airport to the city

Ngurah Rai airport is about fifteen minutes from Kuta, half an hour from Seminyak or Nusa Dua and around ninety minutes from Ubud. There is no rail, so the choice is the fixed price airport taxi counter, Grab or Gojek from their designated pickup area, or a hotel car. The taxi counter is straightforward and the ride hailing apps are cheaper once you find the pickup point. A resort transfer looks expensive but is the least effort after a long flight. Traffic anywhere on the island is slow, so leave more time than the distance suggests.

Bali hotels: common questions

When are Bali hotels cheapest?

November and late February into March, in the wet season. Avoid July, August and the Christmas to New Year stretch, and check the Nyepi date if you travel in March.

Do Bali hotel prices include tax and service charge?

It depends on the site. The combined twenty one percent tax and service charge is often added only at checkout, so compare totals including tax.

Where should I stay in Bali for a first visit?

Nusa Dua for families, Seminyak for cafes and beach clubs, Ubud for quiet among the rice terraces. Kuta is cheapest if budget matters most.
