Travel times are estimates from straight-line distance and the city's average transit speed. Real routes differ, so use them to compare bases rather than to plan a day. Time at each spot is an estimate, 2 hours by default. Places that take a whole day, such as a theme park, are set longer.

How to book Dubai for less

Choose a Dubai property on Agoda, copy the page link and paste it into Tripdify. The extension reads the price on every card, map and search channel and sorts by tax-inclusive total.

Under the results, check the same property on Trip.com, Hotellook and Expedia, and open flights, activities and eSIM for the same dates. Card-channel prices apply only when you pay with that card.

Cheapest May, Jun, Jul, Aug, SepPeak Jan, Feb, Mar, Nov, Dec

Read from this city's own twelve months. The table below adds the temperature and rainfall for each one.

Dubai runs the opposite way to most cities: the pleasant months from November through March are the expensive ones, peaking from Christmas through New Year's Eve, during the Dubai Shopping Festival from December into January, and around the Dubai World Cup race week in March. From June through September daytime highs pass 40 degrees and the same resort can fall by close to half, which makes summer the bargain if you plan to spend the day in malls, hotels and the metro anyway. Ramadan brings quieter daytime dining and less nightlife but usually softer hotel rates, while the Eid holiday that ends it pulls in Gulf travellers for a short spike.

Dubai month by month

Currency and card payments

The currency is the UAE dirham, pegged to the US dollar, so the exchange rate is not a worry. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, taxis included, with contactless the default, and cash is only useful in the old souks and for small tips. Hotel bills carry 5 percent VAT, a municipality fee and a service charge, and those three are usually inside the online total, but the Tourism Dirham fee, charged per room per night by hotel category, is often left out and collected at check in. At checkout decline any conversion to your home currency and pay in dirhams or whatever currency the hotel prices in.

Traveler tax refund

Tax free shopping and VAT refunds

In the United Arab Emirates participating shops issue a tax free tag against your passport, and you then validate it at the self service kiosks at the airport or other exit point in Dubai or Abu Dhabi to get the VAT back to a card or as cash. A minimum purchase and an export time limit apply.

Where booking pays off

Agoda has broad Dubai inventory and its card issuer channels apply here with a wider spread than in Europe, while Booking.com and Expedia both carry the resorts in depth. Chains dominate the city, so Marriott, Hilton, Accor and Jumeirah member rates and breakfast inclusive packages often beat third parties, and cancellation terms are generous enough that booking early and rebooking when the price drops works well. Whether the Tourism Dirham fee sits inside the total differs by site, so line that up before comparing. Tripdify reads the Agoda channels, sorts them by total including tax and links the same dates on Trip.com and Expedia. It does not read prices from those sites, so check their totals yourself.

Where to stay

First time visitors are best in Downtown, with the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall on foot and the Red Line metro at the door. Dubai Marina and JBR have the beach and the evening scene but sit more than 40 minutes from Downtown by metro, and the Palm Jumeirah resorts have no public transport, so you depend on taxis. Business Bay is next to Downtown and noticeably cheaper for the same class, which makes it the best value base. Deira and Bur Dubai, the old city, are close to the airport with the souks and abra boats, and are the cheapest, which suits a short stopover. Beach resorts price weekends far above weekdays, so avoiding Friday and Saturday nights saves real money.

Airport to the city

Dubai International sits close to the city. The Red Line metro from Terminals 1 and 3 reaches Downtown in about 30 minutes and the Marina in about 50, and it is cheap, though it is awkward with more than one large suitcase and starts late on Friday mornings, so check the timetable. Taxis are metered with an airport pickup surcharge and take 15 to 25 minutes to Downtown, which for two or more people comes close to the metro per person. Al Maktoum airport, used by some carriers, lies far to the south and needs 45 minutes or more by bus or taxi, so a cheaper fare there is not always a saving.
