Travel times are estimates from straight-line distance and the city's average transit speed. Real routes differ, so use them to compare bases rather than to plan a day. Time at each spot is an estimate, 2 hours by default. Places that take a whole day, such as a theme park, are set longer.

How to book Prague for less

Choose a Prague property on Agoda, copy the page link and paste it into Tripdify. The extension reads the price on every card, map and search channel and sorts by tax-inclusive total.

Under the results, check the same property on Trip.com, Hotellook and Expedia, and open flights, activities and eSIM for the same dates. Card-channel prices apply only when you pay with that card.

Read from this city's own twelve months. The table below adds the temperature and rainfall for each one.

Prague's most expensive weeks are the Christmas markets from late November into early January, when the Old Town Square market pushes winter rates above the summer peak, and New Year's Eve is the single priciest night of the year. May through September is the next tier, and the Easter markets add a brief spike in spring. The cheapest stretch is mid January through March, once the markets close, plus early November before they open, when the same room drops noticeably despite the cold. Weekend breaks from across Europe, including stag and hen groups, make Friday and Saturday nights clearly dearer than weekdays.

Prague month by month

Currency and card payments

The currency is the Czech koruna, not the euro. Cards and contactless work in hotels, restaurants and most shops, but small purchases such as market stalls and public toilets still need coins. Exchange booths in the tourist centre often offer poor rates, so withdraw from a bank ATM and always decline the offer to convert to your home currency on screen, taking koruna at the bank's rate instead. Prague charges a small city fee per person per night that most booking sites leave out of the online total and the hotel collects on site. At checkout choose koruna rather than euros or your home currency.

Traveler tax refund

Tax free shopping and VAT refunds

The Czech Republic is part of the EU VAT refund system. Take a tax free form from the shop and have it stamped by customs at the point where you leave the EU to claim the refund. A minimum purchase and an export time limit apply, and you must be a non EU resident.

Where booking pays off

Booking.com has the deepest Prague inventory, including most of the apartment stock. The big Hilton and Marriott properties often match or beat third parties with member rates, and family run pensions are sometimes a little cheaper booked directly by email or on their own site. Agoda's card issuer channels apply in Prague, but the spread is narrower than in Asia, a few percent at most, and the totals usually leave out the city fee. Tripdify reads the Agoda channels, sorts them by total including tax and links the same dates on Trip.com and Expedia. It does not read prices from those sites, so open them and compare the totals yourself before paying.

Where to stay

The Old Town and the streets around Charles Bridge put everything on foot but are the most expensive and noisy late into the night. Across the river, Malá Strana below the castle is quiet lanes and boutique hotels, the choice if atmosphere matters most. The New Town around Wenceslas Square has three metro lines and the largest stock of hotels, though the nightlife noise means a room on a side street is wiser. Vinohrady is a residential district of cafes and parks, noticeably cheaper for the same class and minutes from the centre on metro line A. Karlín has the newer hotels, and Anděl in Smíchov has the airport bus stop, which helps on the first and last night.

Airport to the city

Václav Havel Airport has no rail link, so the cheapest and fastest route is bus 119 to Nádraží Veleslavín, 15 to 20 minutes, then metro line A into the centre. Public transport tickets cover bus and metro together, so one ticket does the whole trip and suitcases ride without a surcharge. The Airport Express bus runs to the main railway station in 35 to 45 minutes and is easier with heavy luggage. Taxis, Bolt and Uber take around 30 minutes to the centre, and the official airport taxis charge a fixed fare, which removes the risk of overcharging and makes them the better choice on a late arrival.
