Travel times are estimates from straight-line distance and the city's average transit speed. Real routes differ, so use them to compare bases rather than to plan a day. Time at each spot is an estimate, 2 hours by default. Places that take a whole day, such as a theme park, are set longer.

How to book Manila for less

Choose a Manila property on Agoda, copy the page link and paste it into Tripdify. The extension reads the price on every card, map and search channel and sorts by tax-inclusive total.

Under the results, check the same property on Trip.com, Hotellook and Expedia, and open flights, activities and eSIM for the same dates. Card-channel prices apply only when you pay with that card.

Read from this city's own twelve months. The table below adds the temperature and rainfall for each one.

Manila is dry from December to May, coolest from December to February and very hot from March to May. June to November is the wet and typhoon season, when flights can be cancelled at short notice. The Philippine Christmas season runs long, and rooms are dearest from mid December into early January. In Holy Week before Easter the city empties and shops close, so city hotels get cheaper while resorts outside town sell out. Business travel dominates Makati and Bonifacio Global City, where weekday nights often cost more than weekends. July to September is the cheap stretch if you can live with the rain.

Manila month by month

Currency and card payments

The currency is the Philippine peso. Hotels, malls and chain restaurants take cards without fuss, but jeepneys, tricycles, street stalls and small tips are cash, so change a modest amount at a mall counter. Grab works well in Manila, and a linked card takes cash out of your rides entirely. Hotels often add VAT and a service charge to the room rate, and sites differ in when they show it, so compare totals including tax. Decline any offer to be billed in your home currency and pay in pesos or dollars.

Where booking pays off

Agoda holds the deepest Philippine inventory, so in Manila it leads on many hotels and its issuer channels differ from each other by a few percent. The international chains in Makati and Bonifacio Global City sometimes price a member rate below any third party, and the casino resorts in Pasay run their own promotions often. Trip.com attaches coupons to Philippine hotels too, though its inventory is thinner than Agoda's. Paste the Agoda link into Tripdify to sort every issuer channel by total including tax, then open the same dates on Trip.com and Expedia from the links. Tripdify does not read prices from those sites.

Where to stay

Makati is the default for a first visit or a business trip, with hotels, restaurants and malls close together and streets you can walk at night. Bonifacio Global City is newer and tidier, comfortable for families, and a little dearer. The Bay Area in Pasay is closest to the airport, with the big casino resorts and the Mall of Asia, and suits a one or two night stopover. Ortigas is cheaper than Makati with plenty of malls. Intramuros and Ermita hold the old city and the sights, but the hotels are tired and the streets are lively in the wrong way after dark.

Airport to the city

Ninoy Aquino International Airport has four terminals spread apart, and airlines move between them, so check yours before you leave. The Bay Area in Pasay is about fifteen minutes away, Makati and Bonifacio Global City thirty minutes to an hour, and the evening rush can double that. Grab shows the fare in advance and is the easiest option; the fixed coupon taxis are expensive and the yellow airport metered taxis fall in between. There is no rail link into the city yet. For a late night arrival a prebooked hotel car is the safe, simple choice.

Manila hotels: common questions

When are Manila hotels cheapest?

July to September, in the wet season. Avoid mid December to early January, and note that Makati and BGC can be cheaper on weekends because business travel drives the weekdays.

Which area of Manila is safest to stay in?

Makati and Bonifacio Global City, both walkable at night with the widest choice of hotels. For an airport stopover the Bay Area in Pasay is closest.

How long does it take from Manila airport to Makati?

Thirty minutes to an hour by Grab or taxi, and longer in the evening rush. There is no rail link yet.
