Travel times are estimates from straight-line distance and the city's average transit speed. Real routes differ, so use them to compare bases rather than to plan a day. Time at each spot is an estimate, 2 hours by default. Places that take a whole day, such as a theme park, are set longer.

How to book Los Angeles for less

Choose a Los Angeles property on Agoda, copy the page link and paste it into Tripdify. The extension reads the price on every card, map and search channel and sorts by tax-inclusive total.

Under the results, check the same property on Trip.com, Hotellook and Expedia, and open flights, activities and eSIM for the same dates. Card-channel prices apply only when you pay with that card.

Read from this city's own twelve months. The table below adds the temperature and rainfall for each one.

Los Angeles hotel rates peak in the summer school holidays from June through August, over Thanksgiving week, and from Christmas into the New Year. Spring break in March, the Rose Parade in Pasadena on January 1, and the LA Marathon weekend in March also lift prices in the neighbourhoods around them. The reliable low points are mid January through February, once the holiday crowds have gone, and the weeks after Labor Day from mid September into October, when the weather is at its best and beach hotels drop noticeably. Coastal areas such as Santa Monica carry a weekend premium, so a midweek stay there costs less than a Friday and Saturday.

Los Angeles month by month

Currency and card payments

The currency is the US dollar and cards, including contactless, are accepted almost everywhere, with tipping expected at restaurants, in taxis and for hotel staff. The City of Los Angeles charges a transient occupancy tax of about 14 percent on the room rate plus a small tourism assessment, and some hotels in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and around the beaches add a resort or amenity fee collected at check in. Most booking sites leave those out of the headline total, so open the price breakdown before you pay. Hotel parking is charged per night and can be substantial if you rent a car, and at checkout choose to be billed in dollars rather than your home currency.

Where booking pays off

In the United States Expedia and Hotels.com carry the deepest inventory and the most frequent promotions, with Booking.com close behind. Agoda's card issuer channels still apply to Los Angeles, but the spread between them is narrower than in Asian cities, so expect a few percent rather than a large gap. Chain loyalty programs from Marriott, Hilton and IHG often match or beat third party sites with member rates, and resort fees are charged at the hotel no matter where you book. Paste the Agoda link into Tripdify to sort its channels by total including tax, then use the links to open the same dates on Trip.com and Expedia. Tripdify does not read prices from those sites, so compare their totals yourself before paying.

Where to stay

Los Angeles is spread out and public transport is thin, so where you sleep shapes the whole trip. Santa Monica and Venice let you walk to the beach and are the most expensive, while West Hollywood and Beverly Hills offer the best restaurants and shopping at a high price. Hollywood is busy with tourists and a little cheaper for the same class, and Downtown drops on weekends when business travelers leave, with the best Metro connections. Koreatown has late night food, reasonable rates and the D line into Downtown, which makes it a practical base for many visitors. For an early flight, the airport hotels around LAX are the sensible choice for the first or last night.

Airport to the city

LAX is the main gateway, and the cheapest way into the city is the FlyAway bus to Union Station, which takes 35 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. The LAX/Metro Transit Center station on the C and K lines opened in 2025 and is reached by shuttle, but most hotels still need one or two changes from there. Uber and Lyft pick up from the LAX-it lot outside the terminals, reached by a short shuttle ride, and take 30 minutes to an hour to Santa Monica or Hollywood. For two or more people with luggage a ride share is the practical choice, and if you rent a car allow extra time for the rental shuttle.

Los Angeles hotels: common questions

When are Los Angeles hotels cheapest?

Mid January through February, and from mid September into October after Labor Day. Avoid the summer school holidays, Thanksgiving week and the Christmas period.

Are resort fees included in Los Angeles hotel prices online?

Usually not. Occupancy tax and any resort or amenity fee are collected by the hotel at check in, so open the price breakdown before you pay.

Is Koreatown a good area to stay in Los Angeles?

Yes. It has late night restaurants, reasonable rates and the D line into Downtown. Choose Santa Monica if the beach is the point, or an LAX hotel for an early flight.
