Paying less without a code
Dropping options you do not need beats a code. Turn off activity cover on a trip that has none, and pick the medical limit against what care actually costs at the destination.
Common questions about EKTA codes
Is my card's insurance not enough?
It often is for a short trip within your region. It often is not for the United States, Japan or Europe, where the medical limit is what matters and card cover is commonly capped well below the cost of a hospital stay. Read the limit, not the fact that cover exists.
Can I buy it after I have already left?
This is one of the few programs that explicitly allows it, which is unusual and is the main reason it appears here. Cover normally starts after a waiting period rather than immediately, so buying from abroad is possible but never retroactive.
What about skiing or diving?
Those are the exclusions that catch people out, and here they are an add-on you select rather than an assumption. If the trip involves an activity a general policy would exclude, add it at purchase, it cannot be added after an incident.
