Travel times are estimates from straight-line distance and the city's average transit speed. Real routes differ, so use them to compare bases rather than to plan a day. Time at each spot is an estimate, 2 hours by default. Places that take a whole day, such as a theme park, are set longer.

How to book Seoul for less

Choose a Seoul property on Agoda, copy the page link and paste it into Tripdify. The extension reads the price on every card, map and search channel and sorts by tax-inclusive total.

Under the results, check the same property on Trip.com, Hotellook and Expedia, and open flights, activities and eSIM for the same dates. Card-channel prices apply only when you pay with that card.

Read from this city's own twelve months. The table below adds the temperature and rainfall for each one.

Seoul rooms peak in spring and autumn: cherry blossom in early April and the foliage weeks from mid October to early November draw the most visitors, and Myeongdong and Gangnam fill first. Lunar New Year and Chuseok, the harvest holiday in September or October, empty the city of locals and can actually soften hotel prices, while Christmas and the New Year period are expensive because of domestic staycation demand. The July monsoon and the coldest weeks of January are the reliable low points. Big concert weekends at the Jamsil or Gocheok stadiums push nearby hotels up sharply, so check the event calendar before fixing dates.

Seoul month by month

Currency and card payments

The currency is the Korean won. Cards are accepted almost everywhere in Seoul, including taxis, convenience stores and street food stalls in the main markets, so cash needs are minimal. Foreign cards work in most places, though a few domestic only terminals exist and some Korean online services want a local phone number. Pay in won at checkout rather than accepting the booking site's conversion to your home currency, which hides a margin. There is no city accommodation tax in Seoul, but the value added tax is sometimes shown separately, so compare totals rather than base rates. A T money transit card, sold at convenience stores, covers subway, bus and taxi.

Traveler tax refund

Tax free shopping and VAT refunds

In Korea smaller purchases over the minimum are refunded instantly at the till, while larger ones give you a refund slip that you scan with your passport at an airport kiosk or refund desk when you fly out.

Where booking pays off

Seoul is Agoda's home turf for card partnerships, so its issuer channels show a clear spread and the same room can differ by several percent depending on the channel. Korean domestic portals Yanolja and Yeogi Eottae hold their own inventory and coupons, especially for mid range hotels and serviced residences, and are worth a look even for foreign visitors. Trip.com is strong on Asian hotels with frequent Seoul promotions, while Booking.com and Expedia matter mainly for international brands. Paste the Agoda link into Tripdify to sort the channel prices by total including tax, then open the same dates on the linked sites. Tripdify does not read prices from those other sites.

Where to stay

Myeongdong and Euljiro are the classic first visit base, with the densest hotel stock, subway lines in every direction and late night food, at the cost of weekend prices. Gangnam and Samseong suit business trips around COEX, and Jamsil beside Lotte World draws families. Hongdae and Hapjeong are younger and cheaper for the same class, with the airport railroad at the door. Yeouido and the Han river side of Mapo offer river views and quiet weekends, and the Seoul Station area concentrates the KTX and airport railroad for onward travel. Itaewon and Hannam are the lively international district but thin on hotels.

Airport to the city

From Incheon Airport the AREX express reaches Seoul Station in about 45 minutes, and the all stop train takes about an hour and serves Hongdae directly. For Gangnam and Jamsil the airport limousine bus stops in front of the major hotels and takes about an hour and a half with no transfer. Gimpo Airport, used for domestic flights and some short hops from Tokyo Haneda, Osaka and Taipei, is much closer, about 30 to 40 minutes to the centre by subway or AREX. A taxi from Incheon is a long ride but reasonable for three people. The KTX from Busan arrives at Seoul Station in about two and a half hours.

Seoul hotels: common questions

When are Seoul hotels cheapest?

The July monsoon and the coldest weeks of January. Early April cherry blossom, mid October to early November foliage and the Christmas to New Year stretch are expensive, while Lunar New Year and Chuseok can actually be cheaper.

Where should I stay in Seoul?

Myeongdong or Euljiro for a first visit, Gangnam for business, Jamsil for families, Hongdae to save money with the airport train close by.

Is Agoda or Yanolja cheaper for Seoul hotels?

It depends on the hotel. Agoda's issuer channels differ from one another, and Yanolja and Yeogi Eottae apply their own coupons. Compare the Agoda channels first, then check the domestic portals and the hotel's own site on the same dates.
