Travel times are estimates from straight-line distance and the city's average transit speed. Real routes differ, so use them to compare bases rather than to plan a day. Time at each spot is an estimate, 2 hours by default. Places that take a whole day, such as a theme park, are set longer.

How to book Hong Kong for less

Choose a Hong Kong property on Agoda, copy the page link and paste it into Tripdify. The extension reads the price on every card, map and search channel and sorts by tax-inclusive total.

Under the results, check the same property on Trip.com, Hotellook and Expedia, and open flights, activities and eSIM for the same dates. Card-channel prices apply only when you pay with that card.

Cheapest May, Jun, SepPeak Feb, Oct, Nov, Dec

Read from this city's own twelve months. The table below adds the temperature and rainfall for each one.

Hong Kong hotel rates jump over Lunar New Year and during the two Mainland Golden Week holidays in early October and early May, when the city fills with visitors from across the border. Trade fairs in April and October, Art Basel in late March and the Rugby Sevens push business hotels up as well. The pleasant dry months from October to December are popular and priced accordingly. The cheapest stretches are the hot and humid typhoon season from July to September and the weeks right after Lunar New Year in February. Weekend nights cost more than weekday nights in most districts.

Hong Kong month by month

Currency and card payments

The currency is the Hong Kong dollar, pegged to the US dollar. Hotels, malls and chain restaurants take cards, but many cha chaan tengs, noodle shops and market stalls want cash or an Octopus card. Buy an Octopus at the airport and it covers the MTR, buses, ferries, convenience stores and a lot of small eateries. Pay the hotel in Hong Kong dollars rather than in your home currency. Hong Kong reintroduced a 3 percent hotel accommodation tax in 2025 and hotels add a 10 percent service charge on top, so compare Agoda channels on the total including tax.

Where booking pays off

Hong Kong is a city where Agoda and Trip.com compete head to head. Trip.com often attaches its own discounts to Chinese owned hotels and local Hong Kong chains, while Agoda's card issuer channels split the same room by several percent depending on which channel you land on. The big chains keep a member rate on their own sites, and Klook and KKday dominate attractions such as the Peak Tram and Disneyland, though Tripdify does not read their prices. Paste the Agoda link into Tripdify to sort the channels by total including tax, then open the same dates on Trip.com and Expedia from the links and confirm the number there.

Where to stay

Tsim Sha Tsui is the easiest first base: the Star Ferry, the MTR and the airport bus all stop there and the harbour view is at the door. Mong Kok and Jordan are cheaper for the same class of hotel and sit among the night markets and local eateries, but rooms there are especially small. On Hong Kong Island, Causeway Bay suits shopping and late food, while Wan Chai and Central are business districts where hotel rates often fall on weekends. Rooms in Hong Kong are small everywhere, so check the floor area before you compare prices.

Airport to the city

From Hong Kong International Airport the Airport Express is the fastest option, about 20 minutes to Kowloon station and 25 to Hong Kong station, with cheaper fares bought online in advance or paid with Octopus and a group discount for two or more travelling together. If your hotel is in Tsim Sha Tsui or Mong Kok, the Cityflyer buses such as the A21 stop close to the door in about an hour for a fraction of the price. A taxi takes about 40 minutes and adds tunnel tolls to the meter. Late arrivals can use the overnight N buses.
