Dubai runs the opposite way to most cities: the pleasant months from November through March are the expensive ones, peaking from Christmas through New Year's Eve, during the Dubai Shopping Festival from December into January, and around the Dubai World Cup race week in March. From June through September daytime highs pass 40 degrees and the same resort can fall by close to half, which makes summer the bargain if you plan to spend the day in malls, hotels and the metro anyway. Ramadan brings quieter daytime dining and less nightlife but usually softer hotel rates, while the Eid holiday that ends it pulls in Gulf travellers for a short spike.
The currency is the UAE dirham, pegged to the US dollar, so the exchange rate is not a worry. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, taxis included, with contactless the default, and cash is only useful in the old souks and for small tips. Hotel bills carry 5 percent VAT, a municipality fee and a service charge, and those three are usually inside the online total, but the Tourism Dirham fee, charged per room per night by hotel category, is often left out and collected at check in. At checkout decline any conversion to your home currency and pay in dirhams or whatever currency the hotel prices in.
Once you have picked a cheap time to go, work out which base gives you the shortest travel.
