Welcome Pickups

A local driver who speaks your language

Welcome Pickups is also an airport transfer service, but it recruits and trains its own drivers, so the experience varies much less.

When it is worth it

It is worth the difference on a first visit to a country whose language you do not speak, or when travelling with parents or small children. The driver speaks English and contacts you before you land. Being able to ask where to buy a SIM or a transit card on day one is a real, practical benefit.

Use it when

  • You are travelling with parents or children and do not want to be lost on arrival
  • You want a driver you can ask, in English, where to buy a transit card or SIM
  • A late arrival, where you would rather not gamble on the driver

Choose something else when

  • It covers fewer cities, so if yours is not listed, look at Kiwitaxi or intui.travel
  • On price alone it sits above the local-operator brokers, so if budget leads, choose elsewhere

What to check

It covers fewer cities than Kiwitaxi. If your destination is not listed, look there instead. Popular slots sell out in high season, so book once your flight is ticketed.

Check before you book: Airport transfers

  • How many minutes of free waiting you get if the flight is late
  • What costs extra: child seats, extra stops, waiting past the allowance
  • That the meeting point and a way to reach the driver are in the confirmation email

Welcome Pickups: common questions

How is this different from Kiwitaxi?

Kiwitaxi brokers local transport companies; Welcome Pickups hires and trains its own drivers. That makes the experience more consistent and you hear from the driver before you land, but it covers fewer cities and costs a little more.

What if I cannot find my driver?

The confirmation email carries the driver's contact details and the meeting point. You can reach them through the app or by message on arrival, and the same email sets out the refund rule if you never meet, so keep it.
