Localrent
Local car rental companies, not the international brands
Localrent aggregates local rental companies rather than the international chains.
When it is worth it
In southern Europe, Georgia and much of Southeast Asia the local companies are clearly cheaper than the big brands. Many take no deposit, or take it in cash, which matters more than it sounds if your credit limit is modest. Airport delivery is usually included.
Use it when
- Regions where local firms are strong: Georgia, Turkey, Montenegro, Thailand
- Your credit limit is tight and a large deposit hold would hurt
- You want to collect at the airport and drive straight out
Choose something else when
- Where the international brands are dense, as in the US and western Europe, the saving is small and claims are easier with a brand
- Few local firms accept a one-way return in another city
What to check
Quality varies more than with a chain. Read the review count and score for the specific company before booking. Excess cover and fuel policy differ by company, so confirm both at pickup, and film the car's condition when you take it.
Check before you book: Car rental
- Whether the deposit is none, cash or a card hold, and how long a hold takes to release
- The damage waiver's scope and excess, and the fuel policy
- Whether your passport and physical licence are needed alongside an international permit
Localrent: common questions
Can I really rent without a deposit?
It depends on the firm. Each listing states one of three: no deposit, a cash deposit, or a card hold. A card hold can take weeks to release after you return the car, so if your limit is tight, pick a no-deposit firm.
Who do I deal with after an accident?
Your contract is with the local firm. Localrent brokers the booking, so the first conversation is with that firm. This is why reading its review count and rating before booking matters far more here than with an international brand.
