Tokyo seasons and room prices
Tokyo rooms peak in late March and early April for cherry blossom, again during Golden Week at the end of April into early May, and over the New Year holiday. Mid August, when Obon brings domestic travelers into the city, is also expensive. Mid January through February and the June rainy season are the reliable low points, and the same hotel can drop by a third. Weekend nights carry a clear premium because so many visitors fly in from nearby countries for two or three nights, so a Sunday check in often beats a Friday one on price alone.

The currency is the yen. Hotels, department stores and chains take cards everywhere, but small restaurants and older shops can still be cash only, so carry some notes. At checkout pay in yen rather than letting the booking site convert to your home currency, since that conversion hides a margin. Japan adds a small accommodation tax per person per night in Tokyo on rooms above a threshold, collected at the hotel, and it will not appear in most online totals.
