Singapore seasons and room prices
Singapore sits on the equator, so there is no real high or low season by weather and hotel prices follow the event calendar instead. The single most expensive week is the Formula 1 night race in mid to late September, when hotels around Marina Bay sell out months ahead at several times the usual rate. Lunar New Year, the year end countdown and the June and December school holidays are also dear. The rainier northeast monsoon from November to January softens prices a little, and quiet weeks in late February, March, July and August are the reliable value. Big conferences can spike a random week, so check the dates.
Singapore local costs and payment
The currency is the Singapore dollar. Cards and contactless payment work almost everywhere, including taxis and the MRT, but some hawker centre stalls still take only cash or a local QR wallet, so keep a few notes. Pay the hotel in Singapore dollars rather than in your home currency. Hotels and restaurants habitually quote before a 9 percent goods and services tax and a 10 percent service charge, shown as a double plus after the price, and the two together add a meaningful amount to the bill. Compare Agoda channels on the total including tax rather than the headline rate.
