Qingdao seasons and room prices
Qingdao is a seaside city with a sharp summer peak. July and August, when the beaches open, are the dearest months, and seafront hotels climb further when the Qingdao International Beer Festival runs in summer. The National Day golden week from October 1 and the Labour Day holiday in early May also push prices up as domestic travellers arrive. May, June, late September and mid October onward are mild and moderately priced. Winter brings cold sea winds and the lowest rates. Short flights from Seoul make it a common weekend trip, so Friday and Saturday nights cost more.
Qingdao local costs and payment
The currency is the yuan, and payment runs almost entirely on Alipay and WeChat Pay. Both apps accept foreign cards, and setting one up before you fly covers taxis, convenience stores and most seafood restaurants. Hotels, department stores and larger restaurants take international cards, but small shops on the beer street and in markets may accept only the apps, and since cash remains legal tender a small reserve is sensible. Hotel rates in China are usually shown with tax and service included, but sites differ, so compare on the total. Pay in yuan and decline home currency conversion.
