Prague's most expensive weeks are the Christmas markets from late November into early January, when the Old Town Square market pushes winter rates above the summer peak, and New Year's Eve is the single priciest night of the year. May through September is the next tier, and the Easter markets add a brief spike in spring. The cheapest stretch is mid January through March, once the markets close, plus early November before they open, when the same room drops noticeably despite the cold. Weekend breaks from across Europe, including stag and hen groups, make Friday and Saturday nights clearly dearer than weekdays.

Prague local costs and payment

The currency is the Czech koruna, not the euro. Cards and contactless work in hotels, restaurants and most shops, but small purchases such as market stalls and public toilets still need coins. Exchange booths in the tourist centre often offer poor rates, so withdraw from a bank ATM and always decline the offer to convert to your home currency on screen, taking koruna at the bank's rate instead. Prague charges a small city fee per person per night that most booking sites leave out of the online total and the hotel collects on site.
