When is it cheapest to visit Nagoya?

Nagoya is cheapest to visit in February, June, and November.

Peak season is March, April, July, August, and December, when rooms cost the most.

Nagoya seasons and room prices

Nagoya's demand is driven more by business and events than by tourism, so prices move with the calendar of trade shows and concerts rather than with the seasons. Weekdays fill with business travelers and weekends can be the cheaper nights, the reverse of Tokyo or Osaka. Golden Week, Obon in mid August and the New Year holiday are still expensive, and a big concert at the Nagoya Dome or an exhibition at Port Messe can lift the whole city overnight. Mid January through February and the June rainy season are the reliable low points, and the city is a common cheaper base for visiting Takayama, Ise or Shirakawago.

Nagoya local costs and payment

The currency is the yen. Hotels and department stores around Nagoya Station and Sakae take cards, but the Osu shopping arcade, neighbourhood coffee shops famous for their morning sets and small restaurants can still be cash only, so keep some notes. Pay in yen at checkout rather than accepting the site's conversion to your home currency. Nagoya has discussed an accommodation tax of its own, so check whether the total shown at booking includes any local tax. The Manaca transit card, or any of the nationwide IC cards, works on the subway, Meitetsu trains and in convenience stores.
